Hello fellow funk freaks,
I have had a rocktron banshee for a few months, and it wasn't until recently actually that I understood that I needed an adaptor that switches the european power to American power to make it work.
But I'm not quite there yet, my set-up consists of a computer, a Roland Edirol Midi keyboard, and a Mbox Pro that I use as a soundcard for Logic Pro.
Now, my question is, how should I hook the Rocktron up to make it work?
If somebody here could describe for me step by step what I should do to make it work, I would be most grateful. First of all, which output do I use on my talkbox "To Amp" "In" or "Ext Speaker"?
Should I hook it up from "To Amp" on my talkbox to a mic input in my external soundcard (Mbox) or should I hook it up straight to my midikeyboard?
Please give me some guidance Talkbox Veterans!
Best Regards from Sweden
-Alex |

first of all your Banshee needs a synthesizer sound.
The Problem is... you got no synth??
You want to play the Talkbox with your PC?
But you always will record it with your PC??
The most easyer way for you is to get a Synthesizer, go from his output into the input from your Banshee and record it with a mic that goes to your soundcard input.
Another chance is to use 2 PCs....

Well I have a midi keyboard, which I play sounds from Logic on my Imac.
Do I need a real syntheziser with built in sounds to make it work?
Yesterday when I tried some stuff I got sound from the keyboard out of the tube into my mouth, am I on the right way?
I connected it from the output of my soundcard to the input of my talkbox and sounds came out of the tube, do I need to connect from the "to amp" to something? like speakers or amplifier? I thought that the banshee used a built in amplifier.
DO You have to have a mic to get sounds out of it? Cause I seen people on Youtube that doesn't have a mic and they get a sound out of it anyway.
Thanks for the help! |

Hi,
a talkbox is a speaker. I repeat: A talkbox is a speaker (with a tube connected to it)!
Every sound you put into it, you will hear on the tube.
To put a Banshee to the OUT connection of your soundcard MIGHT be a good idea, but only on the first glimpse.
When you make a beat/song with bass, keyboard etc. on your computer, you will hear all of it coming out of your talkbox, because it is connected to the soundcard output! I say that again in different words: You will hear the whole song on your talkbox! And have no chance to monitor the song with headphones because the output is senselessly blocked with your Banshee.
What you want is:
Hear and listen the beat on headphones and route ONLY the Talkbox-Lead-Sound to your Banshee! So to say:
Synth (virtual) routed to OUTPUT A or 1 or whatever it is on your imac.
Rest (Beat, Bass, Keyboard, blabla) routet to OUTPUT B or 2 or whatever.
You need two outputs and you must be able (knowledgewise/theoretically and technically/practically) to route outputs within logic and the mac!!!!
I have no idea, if an imac supports that. Macs always seemed kind of "girly" to me.. sorry, no offense.
---------------
Your second question. Yes, of course you need a mic if you want to record your stuff with the MAC. How else do you want to record what you are saying with your mouth? ..regardless if there is a tube blowing sounds into it or you are singing happy birthday with your normal voice.
A talkbox is a speaker.
It amplyfies every sound you put into it.
This speaker is blowing into a tube.
You are forming words with the tube-sound
And record it with a mic.
-------------------
See, I use a mic even on youtube!

Sorry if I come off like a retard, but i need more help.
I have this one as a soundcard hooked up via firewire to my computer, You can watch a closeup of the in/outputs by doubleclick the image of it:

And I have this midikeyboard: Nur registrierte Mitglieder können diesen Link sehen! Get registred or enter the forum! |
hooked up straight to my imac via usb. and I have my monitors hooked up to "monitor out"
I can get the syntheziser sound out of the tube by hooking it up to the soundcard's output, but thats about it!
I have a microphone aswell, it seems like I have all the tools, but still it hasnt clicked for me. I'm a rookie I know, please dont laugh.
WTF should I do!? |

Man! Those guys in the Youtube Video record themselves with a video camera and this camera has what?
Yeees, a built-in microphone. Ozone told you already.
Your soundcard has Line-Out 1,2,3 and 4
You can (and have to!) ROUTE the signals within your audio software!!
You have to do the signal-routing in Logic or Cubase! The soundcard does not know, on which channels (1-6) to playout which signal.
You could, for example, set it up like this:
Line Out 1 - route in software. Play only the virtual talkbox keyboard on it. Hook up a cable and put it in your Banshee (>IN) Nothing more, just the keyboard routed to Line Out 1
Line Out 2 - route everything else there. Your complete song, your monitoring. Hook up Headphones there for example.
Mic/Line in 1 - Get an XLR Cable and hook up a microphone there.
Hear your beat via LineOut 2, Play your Keyboard with your Banshee (correctly routed in Logic!) on LineOut1 and record your talkbox with the microphone via Line In 1
To make it click: Imagine, that the talkbox imitates the sounds/vibrations of your vocal-chords in your throat. When you speak, or sing, or play talkbox it is the same recordingwise. Thats why you do not whisper or speak, when you talkbox. The sound from the tube is doing the job that your throat does. However, you have to still form some letters with your lips. The letters A,E,I,O,U are taken care of by the talkbox. The other letters, that do not involve "humming", the harsh sounds, you still have to make with your mouth and lips and teeth. Sh, T, P, K, R, L and so on. But never ever sing with it, whisper nor use your vocal-chords.
Maybe you should read this whole posting thrice and then sleep about it and then read it again and it should work.
You're sure, that you are not kiddin us?
I only know the routing in Cubase. Never used Logic. |

ok, i see...
now the problem is that i'm trying to find where to route in logic...Its not easy Im telling You.
But I shouldn't use the Ext speaker" output in the rocktron? I should just use "in"?
thanks, i won't bother you more with stupid questions. |
